February 30 really existed
It’s an elementary knowledge to know that February has two dates in a Gregorian calendar, 28 days for regular years and 29 for leap years. However, in the Swedish calendar in 1712 had February 30.
This happened when Swedes forgot to omit the two leap years that happened in1904 and 1908 Calendar because their attention was focused on the Great Northern War. So, to avoid confusion and further mistake, they added February 30 to fix the error.
There is such a thing as January 0
Zero is an absolute number. It is pivotal in determining the exact quantity of a number and it also defines how big is your bank account. Funny, huh? But, without us knowing, zero, as a date, is real. January 0 is considered as an alternative for December 31.
It is the day before January 1 in an annual ephemeris. Ephemeris is a table showing the positions of a heavenly body on a number of dates in a regular sequence. Thus, to avoid reference to the previous year, it keeps the date in the year in which the ephemeris was published.
May 35, what?
Having the 35th day in the calendar is totally unusual. But, in mainland China, May 35 has been present. Netizens used it [May 35] as a code for June 4, 1989, in relation to the Tiananmen Square protests where the Chinese government censored it in the face of the cyber world in the country of sleeping of giant.
Even after almost 30 years, people use this date in a more creative manner. Just like using their math skills to commemorate this tragedy.
Longer December
In the late 1970s, inventor and promoter Bill Lear conceived a turboprop airplane called LearVia Lear Fan. This would have twin engines driving a single propeller mounted on the tail. Lear’s workers opted to finish many details to have their first official flight on December 30 despite his passing. However, an accident happened thus ending the hopes of flying the plane on the last day of the year.
Nonetheless, British official sympathizers created December 32, 1980 as the last day of the year to fulfill Lear’s dying wish for the LearVia plane to be released in the air at the end of the year.
