Do you believe in curses? Have you heard about any ‘cursed TV shows’? Have you heard of the “Glee” series? Well, let us find out what we mean by all of these questions.
Well, if you’re a Hollywood devotee, you may be familiar with these so-called haunted TV and movie sets, and cursed actors and objects. For example, you may have heard of the cursed movie sets of Poltergeist, Wizard of Oz, and The Exorcist. If not, maybe you’re familiar with the ‘Superman Curse’? What about the infamous curse of Little Bastard?
Hollywood is not all glitz and glamour. If you know where to look, you’ll discover that it’s got a few dark and mysterious secrets, too. Well, besides all the scandal we’re all too familiar with.
The FOX show Glee series is the latest addition to the list of ‘supposedly cursed TV shows’. The show, which ran from 2009 to 2015, kickstarted the careers of actors Darren Criss, Melissa Benoist, Grant Gustin, and Lea Michelle.
Talks about the show being possibly cursed began earlier this week. That is when rescuers found Glee series actress Naya Rivera dead in Lake Piru in Ventura County, California. This came after police declared the actress missing after going in for a swim with her four-year-old son on July 8, 2020. What started out as a search and rescue mission that afternoon became a recovery mission when it became apparent that Rivera may not have survived.
A Tragedy of Three?
Rivera’s death is just the third in a string of tragedies that has seemingly plagued members of the show’s cast. The first being the death of actor Cory Monteith. In 2013, staff members found Monteith dead in Vancouver’s Fairmont Pacific Rim hotel. The actor apparently died of a drug overdose. Toxicology reports found a deadly mixture of heroin, codeine, morphine, and alcohol in his blood. Coincidentally, they found Rivera on the exact day of Monteith’s seventh death anniversary, July 13.
Meanwhile, on January 30, 2018, police found actor Mark Salling dead from an apparent suicide by hanging. This came after the actor pleaded guilty in 2017 to charges of possession of child pornography. Salling had sentencing scheduled for March of that year. Salling’s crime is punishable by 4-7 years in prison. In addition, he’d also have to register as a sex offender for life.
So, what do you think? Does Glee have a curse? Or are these deaths just a string of tragic coincidences? Whatever it is, all we know is that these actors will be sorely missed by fans of the show.
In the show, Naya Rivera, Cory Monteith, and Mark Salling played the characters of Santana Lopez, Finn Hudson, and Noah Puckerman, respectively.
