Singapore is a country that has fewer cases as of today. Singapore’s battle with the pandemic was hard and strict, but they made it through. If you want to learn more about this, here’s how Singapore managed the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Singapore’s Battle with the Pandemic

According to Michael Merson, the director of SingHealth Duke-NUS Global Health Institute in Singapore, the country has several factors that are difficult to replicate: an excellent health system; rigorous virus testing, monitoring, and applying containment programs which consists of a small population of citizens who largely accept what the government orders them to do.

“There is strong and strict governance, but there is also trust in the government,” said Merson.

Merson said Singapore allowed companies and some universities to remain open, but with very strict guidelines on the size of congregations (25 or less).

However, Singapore reported 17 news incidents on March 16, the highest number it reported in a day. Eleven of those reported cases were coming from outside of Singapore.

Since then, Singapore has imposed a strict 14-day quarantine on all foreign arrivals in the country.

How it All Started for Singapore

Singapore was praised as a brilliant example of how to deal with the new virus. The WHO noted that aggressive cases in Singapore allowed them to quickly isolate new cases. It quickly closed case groups and kept most of its economy. In early April, Singapore had registered fewer than 600 cases.

The vast majority of these cases are in overcrowded dormitories housing more than 300,000 in Singapore.

Singapore’s battle with the pandemic was hard and strict. Singapore ordered a ban on April 7 to respond to an increase in the number of cases from the public (general population). Then, they began to find a significant number of cases since that day.

Singapore is currently evaluating more than 3,000 migrant workers per day. However, the virus spread so quickly that the Ministry of Health was unable to evaluate all the suspected cases.

Singapore is a small city-state with almost 6 million inhabitants. It is the second richest country in Asia per capita.

However, the economy is highly dependent on young men from Bangladesh, India, and other countries working in construction and manufacturing. Singapore has no minimum wage for foreign or domestic workers.
