Project Management Life Cycle
Generally, projects go through a series of phases:
Team members, together with the client and other important parties meet. They discuss the goals and objectives of the project here. In this phase, the project manager defines main project goals and identifies relevant information.
After the identification of pertinent information, the project team can now move to the planning phase. This phase is for developing a strategy or framework that outlines the project’s major goals. It consists of two parts—strategic planning and implementation planning.
Strategic planning aims to identify different methods of handling the project. While implementation aims to identify ways to apply those methods.
In this phase, all decisions and strategies identified during planning are finally implemented. The project manager should tightly monitor this phase of the process to prevent any error from taking place.
This marks the end of the project.
Overall, there are two types of project management methodologies to choose from.
This is a more linear approach to delivering work. Here, all project requirements are gathered at the beginning. Then, a sequential plan is created to accommodate those requirements. Milestones measures progress, and each phase must be complete before moving on to the next. In this methodology, the client doesn’t play an important role in the development of the software.
Meanwhile, the client plays a bigger role in this method. Moreover, instead of milestones, “sprints” measure progress. While waterfall is a linear process, agile is iterative. Meaning, priorities and requirements are based on customer feedback.
